The next day after my arrival to Great Britain, my sister left me alone to do the touring by myself while she goes to work. I was to visit one of the greatest museums in the world - The British Museum. I took the bus alone from the apartment and got off somewhere near the museum. Hungry, I went into the only cafe that I could go in without the fear of getting lost and ordered my meal thriftily - a sandwich and a latte. The sandwich tasted horrible (I can make a better one than that!), but because British things are so expensive that I couldn't bear to throw it away, I forced it down anyway.
After meal, I asked for some directions and walked to the building. The building itself is grand enough for me to let out a "sugoy!!", but the inside is even more significant. I really wonder how much does it take them to get their hands on these historical objects! The museum is very generous, it required no admission fee and it allow photos to be taken inside as well. I was surprised after my sister told me about this offer, she laughed at my bewilderment and told me:
"of course they have let you! most of those treasures were stolen and robbed from other countries! It'd be thrown by sandwiches if they ask for anymore money!"
"But don't they give it back?"
"NO"
Okay~ Anyway, I took only one picture inside, and it's not some kind of display, it's the interior roof of the museum. I'm not a historian or an archaeologist, I cannot figure out what is worth a spot in my camera. Basically, I just strolled around the exhibition rooms, widening my eyes, gasping, or letting out a quiet "ohhhhh", just to show that I'm intrigued (which I sometimes am not). I don't have to describe the details of the museum do I? It's filled, both with people and history. Other than that, there are several giftshops which I find them more entertaining since they have fun books to read. They also have a huge but crowded cafeteria (never will you find such a caring facility in Canadian or Taiwanese museums!)
I got out of the museum and went back to the cafe for another coffee, I just had to find somewhere away from the rain to figure out how I can get to Oxford Street where my sister works (or I would never spend another three pounds on one coffee). I thought I was confident enough but I was wrong. I walked through at least five different streets and went around and around the British Museum and I asked at least three people for the direction but none of them led me there. I was wet and cold becuase I wore too less and I bought no umbrella to coat myself from London's rain (which is famous for their frequency and heavy amount). Finally a policeman gave me the correct way, and I got onto Oxford Street!
I had some fun time looking around the stores and I shopped all the way to my sister's workplace. I had the opportunity to confirm that British things are seriously EXPENSIVE and they have A LOT OF PIGEONS. However, I managed to buy two cheap Hayao Miyazaki animes for Five pounds each.
I met my sister finally and went back to her apartment on a crowded and suffocating underground train thus ending a tiring and wet day. I have to make one note though - I find London (or basically British) people very friendly, helpful, and polite! I love them!
