So I went skiing at Cypress Mountain on the last day of the last month of 2007 with Melody, Seal, Betty, and Sae Young.
I almost threw up on Seal's car becuase Melody and Betty kept on saying weird jokes and making weird comments and got me motion sicked. But somehow I held it in, probably becuase of the fresh air up on the mountain.
At first I felt reluctant to go becuase I didn't want to buy all the waterproof clothing or spend so much money on renting the set. But instead, I managed to find all of them in my house at random places. For example, I found this ski set in my garage. It actually belonged to my sister, but she only used it once before she left for London I think (on the streets in front of my house). Esther gave it to her on her 25th birthday. So basically, it was still brand new. I also found ski pants and water proof jacket in my sister's old closet, it belonged to my brother. But he never wore it becuase it was still in its plastic bag.It took them so long to rent their gears. And you can never imagine how bad it smelled in the ski and snoboard renting centre. It was a mixutre of wet socks and worn out shoes, thank goodness I found my own set, so I didn't have to stay in there. I stayed out to get my ticket and read "1984" outside the renting centre.
It took them two hours to finish with the renting and we were finally lining up for the lift. As I looked around, I felt so proud with my skis. Not only does the graphic on there look cooler than the other people's, but they are unique becuase they are short, cute eh? Furthermore, the set was very easy to handle becuase because I simply had to clip the boots on there. If the couple behind us haven't told me this, I woudln't have known: This set came out a few years ago, one of the newer ones. The skis are low friction becuase they're short, therefore no poles are needed. The snowboarders (aka Melody, Seal, Betty, Sae Young) weren't that lucky with their snowboards; how inconvenitnet (Haw haw).
We started with the lowest slope. As a first timer, I got the hang of it quite well. In fact, I wasn't falling! No one taught me but I was able to move and brake without much difficulties. I managed to ski down the slope easily. Though Melody, Seal, Betty was suffering as a beginnier snowboarder. They even fell as they got off of the lift (LOL). They were falling non-stop. And the way they fall were entertaining (I'm so evil). While I was skiing down the hill, I heard Melody's scream from the back: "AHHHH" , and right after the screaming stopped, there was a loud "THUD". As I turned back to see, there was Melody lying on the snow on her front, legs bent. Experienced Sae Young tried to comfort them by giving them instructions:
1) "Move forward with your front as a beginninger"2) "If you think you're gonna fall", he paused, "Just fall" "Safely", he added.
As a skier, I couldn't stop laughing after seeing the hopelessness on their faces. My face was exactly like: XD.
After we came down from the higher slope, which took us an hour (They told me Hannah Lee took two hours), we went to eat lunch. Seal and I were buying our food, so Sae Young and Melody gave us their instant noodles to have it filled with water at the shop. The food there was ridiculously expensive. 12 dollars for a combo that was the equivalent size of a McDonald meal. I was watching Seal doing the instant noodles. He pressed the wrong button and coffee came out instead of water, and went in straight to the first bowl.
"Seal!" I yelled. "That's COFFEE"!!!
He looked at me and looked back down, drained the coffee in the bowl and changed it to water in a calm manner.
"So who are you giving this to?" I asked."Melody of course," he said with his usual calm tone of voice."I agree."
Though the coffeed noodles ended up in Sae Young's stomach instead.
We went back skiing once again after lunch. For the last little while, Betty, Melody, and I went up to the high slope again. By this time they weren't falling that much anymore, they were in fact much better. Though Melody still fell each time getting off of the lift. And this was where I fell:
"I was snowboarding steadily and slowly suddnely I heard this scream which gets louder like 'ahhhHHHHH', and Sherry flew by with a freaked out look on her face, and the scream faded as she went ahead. Then she did an un-lady like flip and an un-lady like roll and she fell violently."
- Quote Melody
I was really freaked out becuase I couldn't stop, I was going so fast. Finally I decided that it was hopeless to attempt to brake, so I let go of my control and did a violent fall. DAMN! Melody witnessed this whole thing (LOL).
When we returned to the renting centre it smelled even worse than in the morning. Everyone's socks were wet and their boots weren't any better. Except for mine (^_^), they kept me warm and dry all the way through. As Melody was changing into her new socks, she smelt her wet ones. I didn't know what she had to do that. Betty was already yelling "WHY ARE YOU SMELLING IT!!!" What was worse was the little girl beside Melody was already glaring at her as if saying "YOU'RE DISGUSTING". Apparently, Melody was curious of how wet socks smelled like. I asked her how it was, she said "It's not so good".
Overall, this ski trip wasn't bad at all. In fact, it was very enjoyable. We plan to go back there agin this year in Febuary. After the exams and before I leave.
By the time I returned, I was already too tired to go to the Chinatown's count down party. So I told Melody and Betty to say Happy New Year to them for me as I stayed home. After a warm shower, I ate a large meal as I watched the Japanese film "Say Hello For Me", aka "Sono toki wa kare ni yoroshiku". So touching.
When it was around 11:58 am, I turned up my "Date and Time Properties" window onto my desktop and whispered "5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Happy New Year Sherry" to myself. Pathetic eh? I had to whisper becuase my dad was sleeping. But I gotta thank Melody, she phoned me from the party and greeted me. And Nico, she came back online and greeted me new year as well, though new year has already passed in Hong Kong.Lastly, Happy New Year Guys!
