Since Daniel was nice enough to write English blogs, I shall too. Here we go....
To tell the truth, I didn't volunteer at Erma becuase I wanted to "give out to the society". Sadly, I applied for this job just for the sake of my university application. When the principal asked me "Why do you want to work here?" I could feel my voice shaking a bit in that unprofessional tone, "Because,..I see that volunteering experience is really important." My desire to get into a university is stronger than my desire to help people with a truthful purpose, am I pathetic or what.
Probably becuase they really needed help or they saw me as a free gift, I was accepted.
I knew the teacher I was to work for from last year. Last year she asked me to mark her theory tests, play the piano and the recorder, jumping on ladders as if I'm an entertainer. Though I'm a trained music student, that doesn't mean I am good at every aspect of music. The theory tests took forever for me to mark..and the recorder? I haven't touched one since I left greade 4! She even wanted me to bring in my alto to play for the grade 5's. Now, obviously she has forgotten me by this year, when she asked me if I knew how to play any instruments, my answer was quick and firm "No, I can't play any".
But this year's work doesn't get anymore better. On the first day, she asked me to sew two pieces of bed sheets together. "Oh you'll get over it quick, it's easy! Just ask your school's sewing teacher to help you". But it's not, it took me 15 minutes to just have the machines set up (special thanks to the grade 8's who helped us), and in the end it still didn't work.
It's not that I didn't learn anything though. I can manage to type faster, way faster on crappy apple keyboards and click faster on crappy apple mouses. And I managed the technique of pinning safty pins (special thanks to Amy for teaching me how).
I've also discovered several interesting details. Did you know that the Erma teachers gather in the gym every wednesday to do fitness? I saw the once-my-teachers in gym strips and running around in the gym . And did you know that on the report cards, the comments are actually preset for teachers to just enter the code and the comment will simply appear! I thought they only do it for the highschool report cards.
Do I feel mature being around little kids. They're so cute by the way. I love it when they call me "Sher-wee" . I enjoy working with the little kids, they're very fun to talk to. Here's a conversation of me and a grade 4 boy:Boy: Are you from the high school?Sher-wee: YepBoy: What grade are you in?Sher-wee: Grade 12Boy: WOWSher-wee: Boy: Do you have a car then?!Sher-wee: Eh...no..I failed my L-test..Boy: Then are you going to university after grade 12?Sher-wee: YepBoy: WOW
To them, I'm a mature and cool teenagerBut not to my own classmates..look what I did to a birthday note of a teacher at our school:
I'm sorry, but I couldn't help it
